• ALL-NEW FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION: We matched the all-new Milwaukee-Eight™ engines in our touring line this year with a totally re-engineered dual bending valve front and rear suspension with easily-adjustable emulsion shocks. It's lowered one inch to give you more comfort, more control and more confidence in your handling. New rear shocks give you 15 to 30% more pre-load. They adjust with the turn of a single knob, no tools required. New, bigger pistons have more area than before for improved damping performance over the range of the suspension travel. • LOWEST SEAT HEIGHT IN TOURING: The seat of the Ultra Limited Low motorcycle is as low as you can go on a top-of-the-line Grand American touring machine. It makes lifting the bike off the side stand easier and puts the ground within a short reach of your boot soles.

• 1999 – TODAY TWIN CAM: The second two-cam Big Twin in our history, after the 1928 JDH, with bigger displacement, more power, and a more rigid engine/transmission connection for improved powertrain stiffness.
• 1984 – 1999 EVOLUTION®: The first H-D engine developed using Computer Aided Design. The “Evo” was an evolution, an all-new engine that ran better, used less fuel and delivered more horsepower and torque.
• 1966 – 1984 SHOVELHEAD: We rolled into the modern touring era with a new engine on the original Electra Glide® model. “Power Pac” aluminum heads, 12-volt electrical system, carburetor and easily adjustable timing system. Its nickname comes from the “shoveled-out” look of the middle section of the rocker covers.
• 1948 – 1965 PANHEAD: New aluminum cylinder heads, new hydraulic valve lifters, better oil circulation and roller bearings on the crankpin reduced weight, and added durability. The nickname describes the rocker covers looking like upside down pans.
• 1936 – 1947 KNUCKLEHEAD: The Knucklehead was nicknamed for its rocker covers and push rod tubes, resembling a clenched fist. It was the first H-D twin with overhead valves and recirculating oil. Considered the father of all H-D® V-Twin air-cooled engines, its architecture has carried forward to today.
• 1929 – 1973 FLATHEAD: The Flathead engine got its nickname from the flat shape of the heads. It didn’t have valves in the cylinder head; they were set off to the side. It featured easily removable heads for serviceability.
• 1911 – 1929 F-HEAD: Designed to bring more power to street, police and commercial applications, it featured a waterproof ignition system and 61, and later, 74 cubic inches of displacement.
• 1909 ATMOSPHERIC V-TWIN: It began with 27 motorcycles. 49.5 cubic inches. 7 horsepower. The 45-degree Harley-Davidson® V-Twin engine is born.

Feel

• HANDLEBAR POSITION AND REDUCED DIAMETER GRIPS: A closer handlebar position and reduced diameter grips combine to make working the clutch and front brake levers easy on the Ultra Limited Low motorcycle. Long story short, it's less reach for your arms and fingers.
• PASSENGER FOOTBOARD MOUNTS: You don't have to worry about having your legs bumping into the passenger footboards when you're backing up the bike. The passenger footboard mounts let you fold them up and tuck them completely out of the way in seconds. On the Ultra Limited Low motorcycle, riding is easy. And so is maneuvering your bike into a parking spot.
• SHORTER WINDSCREEN FOR REDUCED HEAD BUFFETING: Head buffeting is caused by the vacuum of air created by the windscreen. On the Ultra Limited Low motorcycle we reduced the height of the windscreen. It's a simple equation: Less height = less vacuum = less head buffeting.
• FAIRING REDUCES HEAD BUFFETING: This is what the science of cheating the wind involves at Harley-Davidson now: fluid mechanics, algorithms, high-speed super computers and thousands upon thousands of wind-tunnel tests with riders in the saddle telling us how it feels. And that's before we take it out on the road for thousands of miles of real world wind gusts and every form of rain a cloud can spit out. The result: a Batwing fairing that delivers smoother air flow and reduced head buffeting. Most of it thanks to the pressure-equalizing duct on the front. It opens and closes with one touch of a button. The feeling of being in the wind just got even better.
• REDUCED WIDTH PRIMARY HOUSING AND DERBY COVER: Getting both feet flat on the ground gets easy on the Ultra Limited Low motorcycle. We reduced the width of the primary housing and derby cover to give your left leg a straighter shot to the pavement. It might seem like a little detail, but it's the little details that make the difference between any motorcycle and the one that's perfect for you to ride.
• BACK AND ARM RESTS: If you really want to know what makes a passenger comfortable, you start by asking people who've seen a good part of the world from the back of a bike. You run thousands of miles of road tests in heat, cold, sun, and rain. You use their input to perfect the height, the width, the shape, the contour, the texture of the leather, the lumbar support. You install controls that can be easily reached and operated with one hand. What you end up with is the back and arm rests you're looking at right here. Passengers love them like they're their own babies, because in a manner of speaking, they are.
• INCREASED PASSENGER SEAT SPACE AND LEG ROOM: Here's a message for all passengers: your time in the saddle has never been better. That goes quadruple when you’re 1,000 miles into the ride of a lifetime making the final leg of the day to get to the hot tub so you can relax for the evening. The longer the ride, the more you'll appreciate the comfort of this machine. The passenger pillion is one inch wider and one inch longer. And we put 2 more inches of room between the speakers. We moved the saddlebag guards down for more legroom and to make sure they don’t rub your calves. It all adds up to a ride that provides best-in-class comfort.
• FAIRING LOWERS: There's no such thing as a minor irritation when you're going to be experiencing it for tens of thousands of miles. The little things make a difference. Like the way the wind comes around your fairing lowers. We've got these fairing lowers dialed in just right, thanks to more wind tunnel and real world riding tests than we've ever done before. And the vents open with one touch when the going gets hot. You'll appreciate them more with each passing mile.
• FULL-LENGTH FOOTBOARDS & TOE/HEEL GEAR SHIFTS: Your boots were made for riding any way you see fit. Our full-length footboards boast a time-tested, tried-and-true design and rubber isolation for a comfortable ride, while the height-adjustable passenger boards add another level of customizable comfort for your riding partner. And for shifting gears, you can use either the traditional toe-shift or the even easier, more convenient heel-shift. It might take a few rides, but once you've gotten used to the smooth shifting rhythm, you'll never give it up.
• ONE-TOUCH DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Here's the rule we laid down for every compartment cover and saddlebag lid on our touring line: if it doesn't open with the single touch of a button or one hand, while wearing gloves, it doesn't go on the motorcycle. The Boom!™ Box 6.5GT Radio puts out 75 watts per channel at 1% distortion and features a factory-tuned, optimized equalizer that pumps out more power and can be played louder while maintaining the clarity of your sound. And the speed tuning system delivers more than just volume changes at different speeds. It changes the level of bass and treble to dial in the best sound, whether you're running at a stately pace down the strip or going hell for leather down an open stretch of road. The racing scoop style of the air cleaner is all it takes to see that this is the new Harley-Davidson power plant. But when you look a little closer, you’ll notice that the things that are good about the authentic, air-cooled look of the Harley-Davidson® V-Twin are alive and well. It’s a jewel machined out of metal, head-heavy and narrow at the waist. Finned cylinders, of course. Pure. Dripping with power. The engine is the visual center piece of the bike. This one makes an ironclad statement about holding on to what’s right and staying true to what satisfies.
• RESTYLED FAIRING AND FRONT FENDER: Let's start with this: when you see the iconic shape of a Harley-Davidson® Batwing fairing coming at you down the road, it leaves no question that you're looking at machine born in Milwaukee and built for gigantic miles of road. Last year, we introduced the Project RUSHMORE Batwing fairing. We made the iconic shape sleeker and gave it a more progressive look. But this isn't just about looks. It's about the ride. The Project RUSHMORE Batwing fairing gives you less head buffeting (see comfort section for the full story on that) but also the look that instantly announces "Hey, this is a HARLEY-DAVIDSON® motorcycle." Of course, we didn't stop at the fairing. The fairing lowers and Tour-Pak™ luggage case got a sleeker look to match. And we worked over the front fender, too-- with a clean look that's cut back to expose more of the wheel and tire. • INNER FAIRING DESIGN: Put your eye to the inner fairing of the Ultra Limited. There's a bigger display screen (see the whole story in the infotainment section). Check out the gauges. You'll notice a 10 percent larger viewing area, with wider, taller numbers sitting on top of that classic black background. The information gets bigger and better too. There's a gear indicator for all six gears and the display area, which can now be operated by an extremely convenient trigger switch, puts more information at your fingertips. The temperature and fuel gauge are larger too. When you're on the road, one quick glance tells you everything you need to know.
• GLOSS BLACK INNER FAIRING: A premium gloss black finish comes standard on the Ultra Limited motorcycle. It's there because on a bike like this one, you can't help but go the extra mile.
