Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson retires Thunder in the Rockies Bike Rally

July 11, 2023

(Loveland, Colo.) – Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson, located at 4250 Byrd Drive in Loveland, has decided to retire its annual Thunder in the Rockies motorcycle rally in Loveland, effective immediately.

“We have had a blast creating 17 years of epic memories and connections with our community while hosting Thunder in the Rockies,” said Katie Tuchschmidt, co-owner of Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson. “The decision to retire Thunder in the Rockies was difficult and emotional. We are excited to continue some traditions from Thunder in the Rockies – such as giving away a Harley- Davidson motorcycle – during the Realities for Children Realities Ride and Rally.”

Thunder in the Rockies began in 2005, and at its peak drew as many as 60,000 riders who shared a hunger for riding. This change of direction primarily is due to the rising challenges associated with hosting an event of this size in today’s environment. Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson will continue to feed the passion for riding and camaraderie in the local biker community through future large-scale events and by supporting the world’s largest motorcycle poker run, the Realities Ride and Rally.

“Last year, we provided emergency services to 5,094 children that were abused, neglected or at-risk, which represents an average of 14 children a day and illustrates a dramatic increase from the average of nine children a day we provided for just a few years ago,” said Realities for Children Executive Director Craig Secher. “To meet this increase in emergency service needs – along with the ongoing needs for healing support among youth sexual assault survivors – community support for our children is essential. Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson has supported our mission for over 20 years, and we are thankful that they are making this commitment to increase their investment in our mission, our children, and the Realities Ride and Rally to make every mile help a child.”

Realities for Children’s Realities Ride and Rally takes place August 25 and 26 at the Anheuser-Busch Biergarten in Fort Collins, Colo. In addition to being an event sponsor, Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson is donating a 2023 Sportster S Harley-Davidson and will give it away on the Thunder Mountain Stage at the Realities Ride and Rally. For the drawing, five lucky finalists will receive a key to the new Harley-Davidson on Friday evening, August 25, at the Realities Ride and Rally. Then, those five will come back to the Realities Ride and Rally on Saturday, August 26, to try their key, and one lucky person will walk away with a brand new 2023 Harley- Davidson Sportster S! worth $16,500. “There are a lot of great memories to look back on when we think of Thunder in the Rockies as well as some exciting things to look forward to with Realities for Children,” said Tuchschmidt. “Most of all, we thank our community of riders for the good times we’ve had and the good times to come. We continue to challenge ourselves to remain an industry leader through innovation to meet the need of our customers, who are the best on the planet. We encourage our unity of riders to join us in attending this event to help support the fundraising efforts for abused and neglected children in our community.”
